DAYBREAKERS of the MONTH: Megha + Dusty
Meet Megha and Dusty!
There are two apparent reasons to Megha and Dusty’s success. One, they show up. Yes, they come to class four to five times per week. Second, when they’re in class they work their butts off! Both athletes are constantly up for a challenge and are willing to step outside their comfort zone on a regular basis.
Megha and Dusty’s drive to pursue their better has resulted in a multitude of firsts. Megha recently got her first handstand, rope climb, graduated to the 35 pound bar and went from the green to the red band for pull ups. Dusty set a personal record for “Grace”, clean and jerk, snatch, did his first muscle up and is a gazelle when it comes to running, rowing and biking.
About Megha
I have been living in Wayland since 2015 and love the town! We moved here after living in Cambridge, London and Mumbai, India. I have been married to Rahul for 12 years and have two girls Myra and Rhea (4 and 8 years old). I majored in apparel design and textiles in college that led me to a career in fashion designing. For the past few years I have been a home maker juggling my two beautiful girls!
For years I have been regularly going to the gym but earlier this year I felt that I should challenge myself a bit more, try something outside my comfort zone and decided to give CrossFit a try and have never looked back! For the last 6 months, I have been going to Daybreak and enjoy the 8:30 am and 9:30 am classes.
1. What keeps you coming back to CrossFit each day?
It has become my passion – like you need a cup of coffee every morning I need to go for my CrossFit class every morning (well almost every morningJ )I have been going for 6 months and what makes me coming back is that I get excited to learn something new every day, accomplish my work out goals and I get excited to share my achievements with my girls like when I learnt my first handstand, my first rope climb, my first tire flip! My girls saw me do the tire flip and said “My mommy strongest!”
I also really enjoy working out with the CrossFit community, love my coaches – the way they understood my strengths and weaknesses and accordingly trained me. And finally, it is my “me” time.
2. What’s your spirit animal (an animal that represents you)?
We were discussing over dinner at home and my 8-year-old Rhea said that I am probably a Lioness. Just like a Lioness I believe in the qualities of strength, courage and assertiveness and to focus on self-control. I believe that true strength is in the ability to control and master one’s own emotions. Even my mom nicknamed me the lioness at home.
3. What are you looking forward to in the coming months?
Keep traveling more with my family and exploring new cities and countries. I believe that travel is the best education one can get, we love to travel and try to make the most of it.
4. If you could be an Olympic athlete, in what sport would you compete?
Swimming! I am not really good at it but I really want to learn one day and win the gold
5, What is your favorite family tradition?
Eating swiss thins after dinner and binge watching the Harry Potter movies every month as a family!
About Dusty
I live in Sudbury with my wife Stacey. We have 3 children; Abby (12), Jake (10), Tate (7). I’ve been a financial advisor for the last 20 years with an office in Wellesley. I started doing CrossFit about 3 1/2 years ago and joined Daybreak just over a year ago. I like to go to the 5:30 am classes.
1. What keeps you coming back to CrossFit each day?
Before CrossFit I had been doing sprint and intermediate triathlons and occasionally going to a gym and working out on those gym machines. After several years of doing the same thing over and over I started to get burned out. At first I was a little hesitant about trying CrossFit because I didn’t think I would fit into the group fitness type of thing- I was wrong. The workouts are different every day. It’s an hour spent challenging yourself to become more fit.
The coaching, the community and the progress you make is what keeps me coming back to Daybreak. It’s great seeing people giving it there all day in and day out pushing each other to improve. It’s also fun to have a little friendly competitiveness now and then.
2. What’s your spirit animal (an animal that represents you)?
I did one of those online quizzes and it came up with a Bear.
3. What are you looking forward to in the coming months?
The Spartan Beast, coaching kid’s soccer & ski season.
4. If you could be an Olympic athlete, in what sport would you compete?
Men’s giant slalom or 2 man beach volleyball look pretty cool. Although I think it would be an amazing experience to participate in any sport in the Olympics (I’d be a ping pong Olympian if given the chance)
5. What is your favorite family tradition?
Now that our kids are old enough we started taking family ski trips as well as camping/hiking a little. Being together outdoors doing a physical activity is something I hope we can do for a long time
