HONORING MCCRAE WILLIAMS

On SATURDAY, DECEMBER 16, Daybreak CrossFit will be honoring McCrae Williams, son of long time Daybreak CrossFit member, Chris Williams. We are partnering with McCrae’s family to host the “MW3” Hero WOD where ALL donations will benefit the McCrae James Williams Foundation. Daybreak CrossFit will also donate 1-month Unlimited Memberships to the top 5 donors. 

McCrae Williams: 01.29.98 – 09.12.17

McCrae touched many people in his 19 years and, although his life was cut tragically short, it was a life well-lived and one full of incredible experiences.  He was a Division 1 lacrosse recruit at Lafayette collage and died a few weeks into his freshman year.  Beyond lacrosse, he loved art (especially video production and editing and graphic arts), family, travel and friends.  Many people have remarked that he had a unique ability to connect with people of all ages and understand them.

McCrae fell in his dorm at 5pm shortly after returning from a lacrosse initiation event at the off campus lacrosse house.  His friends decided they should put him in his bed and JanSport him rather than call for help.  After leaving him in his bed for 22 hours, they decided to carry him out to the parking lot in an effort to bring him to a clinic, at which point the coaching staff heard what was going on and called 911.  He died two days later from a traumatic head injury.  As a goalie, he was the last line of defense.  In his death, he is the last line of defense for the recipients of 5 of his organs.

ABOUT THE McCRAE JAMES WILLIAMS FOUNDATION

In his memory, his family and friends continue to celebrate his accomplishments, and are now focused on raising awareness on the importance of good samaritan policies and the dangerous practice of JanSporting (aka Backpacking, DrunkPacking or Turtling).  Every parent has seen a recent article about a college student dying. You may even know of someone whose son or daughter has died at school. The truly tragic fact is that if help were called, most if not all of these kids would be alive today. Unfortunately, there are only a few poorly funded organizations working to understand and resolve the problem.

THE EVENT

DONATION: $25 includes an event tee shirt (please indicate size on registration page – we will do our best to accommodate your request), morning eats (e.g. bagels, OJ, etc.) and an awesome workout. Additional donations are encouraged but not mandatory.

TIME:  7:00 to 12:00-ish. Heats will begin promptly at 7:15. Each heat goes off every 15 minutes.Athletes, heat numbers and times will be posted below by 8:00PM, Friday, December 15th. Athletes should arrive 20-30 minutes before their scheduled heat. Feel free to come earlier or stay later to cheer on fellow athletes.

Please arrive 20-30 minutes before you scheduled heat. You must sign an ONLINE WAIVER (if you are not a Daybreak member) before you arrive. If you are not sure if you filled one out, please fill one out again!
